An American citizen died during a protest against settlement expansion in the West Bank, according to the State Department.

The department said on Friday that it has learned of "the tragic death" of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi but did not elaborate further or describe how the death occurred.

Reuters is reporting that Eygi died after shots fired by Israeli troops hit her in the head.

The protest reportedly took place in Beita, which is a town located near the city of Nablus.
