A missile attack Sunday originating from the Iraq town of Zummar, which sits on the Iraqi-Syrian border, targeted a U.S. military base in northeastern Syria.
At least five missiles were fired at the base, Reuters reported, citing two Iraqi security sources and an unnamed U.S. official.
No U.S. personnel were injured in the attack.
The official referred to it as a “failed rocket attack,” but provided no further details about how the attack failed. Following the attack, an aircraft from the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq and Syria attacked the launcher, a small truck with a rocket launcher attached to the back of it.
The attack comes one day after Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani returned from the United States, where he met with President Joe Biden at the White House.
