Former captive blasts Biden: 'You left us behind in Iran. Remember?'
Lebanese national Nizar Zakka spent years in Iranian captivity
Nizar Zakka, a U.S. permanent resident and Lebanese national who spent years in Iranian captivity, called out presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden: "You left us behind in Iran," he said in a tweet.
Zakka was held prisoner by the Islamic Republic "from 2015 to 2019 on charges he spied for the United States," according to the Washington Free Beacon.
Biden in a July 12 tweet spoke out about Egypt's release of medical student Mohamed Amashah after he was held for more than one year: "Mohamed Amashah is finally home after 486 days in Egyptian prison for holding a protest sign. Arresting, torturing, and exiling activists like Sarah Hegazy and Mohamed Soltan or threatening their families is unacceptable. No more blank checks for Trump’s 'favorite dictator,'" Biden tweeted.
"With all due respect Mr Biden, I don’t think you are well positioned to comment on this subject," Zakka tweeted. "I never comment on politics but this one was too much. You left us behind in Iran. Remember? Tehran?"
The Free Beacon indicated that Zakka's remarks pertained to the Obama administration's lack of a demand that Tehran release hostages amid diplomatic engagements prior to the nuclear deal with Iran.
