The Israeli military announced Friday that it had dismissed two officers and reprimanded three others over an airstrike that killed seven aid workers in Gaza.
According to the military, the officers disobeyed the army's rules of engagement and mishandled critical information.
“It’s a tragedy,” Israeli military spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said, according to The Associated Press. “It’s a serious event that we are responsible for and it shouldn’t have happened and we will make sure that it won’t happen again.”
Seven World Central Kitchen aid workers were killed by the airstrike Monday after leaving a warehouse in Gaza.
Israel took responsibility for the strike, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said it was a “tragic event in which our forces unintentionally harmed non-combatants in the Gaza Strip.”
The investigation into the incident was led by a retired general, Yoav Har-Even.
