The container ship that was stuck in the Suez Canal was freed Monday, after nearly a week stuck, blocking ships and threatening global trade.

Egyptian state television showed the MV Ever Given freed with the help of several tugboats from the canal, where it was stuck sideways, blocking ships from entering the canal that connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea.

"Egyptians have succeeded today in ending the crisis of the stranded ship in the Suez Canal," Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sissi said earlier on Monday.

The salvage firm Boskalis was able to re-float part of the ship's stern, which was stuck in the canal's eastern bank, blocking ships from passing.

The 430-yard long MV Ever Given got stuck in the canal on Tuesday, costing Egypt $95 million in revenue.
