The U.S. and Syrian Democratic Forces have captured Khaled Ahmed al-Dandal, an ISIS leader who US Central Command says assisted escapees of the terrorist organization after they escaped from a detention facility in Syria.

Al-Dandal, who was captured on Sunday morning, provided support to ISIS fighters who managed to ran away from the Raqqa detention facility in Syria.

The Syrian Democratic Forces only recaptured two out of the three escapees.

According to a CNN report, more than 9,000 ISIS detainees are currently held within 20 detention facilities located in Syria.

The facilities are targets of ISIS, which seeks to free its members who are prisoners.
