US troops injured in rocket attack on Iraq base

United States military troops were injured on Monday in a rocket attack on the Al-Asad Airbase in Iraq.
It is not clear how many U.S. personnel were injured in the blast, but it comes after two explosions were heard near the base earlier Monday. The explosions were reportedly the result of Iran-backed militants launching an attack on the airbase.
The attacks come as the U.S. moves more troops into the Middle East, and after Israel allegedly assassinated two terrorist leaders in Beirut, Lebanon and Tehran, Iran last week. Israeli officials have not claimed credit for the attack in Iran, but Iran's leader said it will retaliate anyways.
It also comes after U.S. fighter jets hit Iranian-backed militants that officials claimed were preparing for drone and missile attacks, according to The Hill.
The escalation in the Middle East also comes after the terrorist group Hezbollah killed 12 children in a strike on a soccer field in Israel last month.
President Joe Biden has been briefed on the escalation, and met with his national security team on Monday to find a path forward without turning the growing conflict into a full-blown regional one, according to NBC News.
