In the capital city of Nuuk, Greenland, thousands of residents marched through snowy, near-freezing conditions on Saturday to voice their opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated statements about taking control of Greenland.

Dressed in warm clothes and holding Greenland’s flag, the demonstrators made their way toward the U.S. Consulate, chanting slogans such as, “Greenland is not for sale.”

Other signs read, "Hands off Greenland," and "Orange hands off Greenland."

The protest drew a wide range of participants and — according to police — was the largest assembly the city has seen, highlighting strong public sentiment in favor of the island’s cultural identity and political autonomy. The photo gallery from the event captures scenes from the march and the resilience of the people who turned out in support of their homeland’s future.
