Lance Cpl. Devin Jacob Ballard, 20, a U.S. Marine stationed at Futenma Air Station in Okinawa, was arrested on suspicion of killing 39-year-old Anna Yagi at a hotel in Naha. Police allege that Ballard also took Yagi’s wallet and backpack.

Ballard has denied the allegations.

Japanese authorities have demanded full cooperation from the U.S. as the investigation continues.
