The World Health Organization is reportedly investigating a possible link between medicines implicated in hundreds of pediatric deaths, according to a Reuters report on Tuesday.

Over the past several months the organization has issued several health alerts regarding "over-the-counter cough syrups for children," with the WHO on Monday claiming the medicines are "associated with more than 300 fatalities in three [countries]."

Now the WHO "is investigating whether there is any connection between manufacturers whose contaminated cough syrups it has linked to the deaths of more than 300 children in three countries," Reuters said on Tuesday, citing "a person familiar with the matter."

WHO is reportedly "seeking more information about the specific raw materials used by six manufacturers in India and Indonesia to produce medicines linked to the recent deaths."

The deaths associated with this investigation occurred last year in "Gambia, followed by cases in Indonesia and Uzbekistan," Reuters reports.
