Alyssa Farah nabs Meghan McCain's old spot co-hosting on The View, reports
The former press secretary to then-VP Mike Pence will reportedly assume the "conservative seat" on the popular daytime talk show
A former Vice President Mike Pence press secretary, Alyssa Farah Griffin, will reportedly assume the spot once held by Meghan McCain as a conservative co-host of ABC's "The View."
Griffin has periodically slid into a seat co-hosting the show since departing the White House at the end of the last administration.
She already has a contract with CNN and regularly appears as a commentator on the cable TV network as a newly anti-Trump member of the former president's staff. It's unclear what will happen to her CNN contract if she indeed signs with ABC.
Griffin has faced criticism from members of the left and the right for appearing to alter and transform her political views to gain media attention.
One of her earliest jobs in politics was communications director for the Freedom Caucus, among the House's most conservative factions.
She has vehemently denied accusations about having pivoted her political views to fit her new role, or any role to which she aspires.
"I haven't stopped using my voice since to condemn [Trump's] lies & unfitness for office. I remain a conservative who believes in limited federal government & a robust national defense," Griffin tweeted in mid-July. "I hope I've evolved. I hope I do the rest of my life. I pride myself first & foremost on being an American. The political labels will always be secondary to me."
McCain departed the show last year, citing a "toxic" work environment and ongoing hostility from her co-hosts, which she further detailed in her book "Bad Republican."
McCain often feuded on air with her liberal leaning and progressive co-hosts over a number political topics – sometimes those conversations became emotionally intense and personal.
The Daily Beast reported earlier this week that comedian Wanda Sykes bailed on an appearance on "The View" due to Griffin's presence.
"She didn't want to be part of helping a Trumper launder her reputation," a source told the outlet.
Such criticism is not unusual for the lone conservative on the popular ABC daytime talk show, which also features Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines.
Though ABC has not yet made an official announcement about Griffin's role as it pertains to the show's 26th season, multiple reports including ones from the Daily Mail and Daily Beast indicate she is the choice.
