Rep. George Santos cancels Don Lemon interview over ‘horrible’ remarks towards Nikki Haley
'We’re not going to sit down with someone who would say such horrible things,' a Santos spokesperson said
New York GOP Rep. George Santos canceled an upcoming sit-down interview with CNN host Don Lemon after Lemon was criticized for being sexist for remarks about former UN Ambassador Niki Haley.
“We heard the comments and it was in very poor taste and we did not wish to do a sit-down with someone who could speak ill of women in that regard,” a spokesperson for Santos told The Daily Mail.
“It shouldn’t matter if it’s a Republican or Democratic woman running for public office, but we’re not going to sit down with someone who would say such horrible things," the spokesperson added.
Instead, Santos is set to do an interview with British Broadcaster and journalist Piers Morgan.
The co-host of CNN This Morning got backlash last week for making remarks about GOP 2024 presidential candidate Nikki Haley, stating she was "past her prime."
Lemon has since apologized for the remarks he made about the 51-year-old candidate.
"The reference I made to a woman’s “prime” this morning was inartful and irrelevant, as colleagues and loved ones have pointed out, and I regret it," he tweeted. "A woman’s age doesn't define her either personally or professionally. I have countless women in my life who prove that every day."
