Fox responds after nonprofit files complaint over allegations Murdoch shared Biden ads with Kushner
Fox said Murdoch shared an already-publicly available Biden campaign ad.
Fox Corporation is pushing back after progressive nonprofit Media Matters filed a Federal Election Commission complaint alleging that the news organization made an illegal corporate campaign contribution after Chairman Rupert Murdoch was accused of providing confidential information in 2020 about then-candidate Joe Biden’s advertisements to former President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Murdoch allegedly shared with Kushner Biden yet-to-be-aired campaign advertisements and a debate strategy, according to recent court filings. Media Matters argues Fox's actions were not protected by the press campaign finance exemption but instead broke federal law.
"Murdoch’s secret conveyance of the Biden advertisement is even less like press activity than a cablecasting company sending campaign flyers in its bills – and neither can be protected by the press exemption," Media Matters wrote in the complaint.
"Mr. Murdoch forwarded an already-publicly available Biden campaign ad which was available on YouTube and had even run on public airwaves," a Fox spokesperson told Just the News. "Dominion has been caught red handed again using more distortions and misinformation in their PR campaign to smear FOX News and trample on free speech and freedom of the press."
The court documents stating that Murdoch shared confidential campaign information with Kushner were filed as part of Dominion Voting Systems' $1.6 billion defamation case against Fox regarding the network's coverage of the 2020 election.
