Lorenz initially claimed someone edited the photo

The Washington Post's Taylor Lorenz changed her tune after claiming a "war criminal" post about President Joe Biden had been edited.

The post went viral after New York Post reporter Jon Levine obtained an Instagram post of Lorenz taking a selfie with Biden in the background. The post was captioned "war criminal" with a frowny face emoji, Fox News reported.

Lorenz initially denied ownership. "You people will fall for any dumbass edit someone makes," Lorenz told Levine on X.

Lorenz reversed course on Friday, admitting ownership but claiming the post was a joke.

"I literally never 'denied it was real,'" wrote Lorenz on X. She instead claimed the post was an "obvious meme."

Lorenz did not respond to a request for comment from Fox News.

Lorenz has been a focus of controversy in the past. She was accused of doxing conservative Chaya Raichik of Libs of TikTok and falsely accusing entrepreneur Marc Andreessen of using "the r-slur."
