YouTube restores Trump's account, cites full voter access to major 2024 presidential candidates

YouTube said Friday it has restored former President Trump's channel, after suspending it the aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. 

"The Donald J. Trump channel is no longer restricted and the ability to upload new content is restored," the the online video-sharing and social media platform told Fox News Digital.

YouTube also signaled the decision was based significantly on Trump running for reelection and voters having full access to his campaign.

"We carefully evaluated the continued risk of real-world violence, balancing that with the importance of preserving the opportunity for voters to hear equally from major national candidates in the run up to an election."

Axios reports the videos previously on Trump's channel will not be restored.

YouTube's decision also appears to be have its own business interests in mind because it creates an opportunity for the Trump campaign to buy adds on the site.

The decision follows Meta announcing roughly a month ago that Facebook and Instagram parent company would restore Trump's respective accounts.
