New Jersey Democrat Sen. Menendez under investigation for expensive gifts, including DC apartment
Menendez has denied any wrongdoing in regard to the ongoing investigation.
New Jersey Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez and his wife are under investigation by the Justice Department for allegedly having received expensive gifts from the owners of a company in his state that won a controversial contract with the Egyptian government.
Some of the alleged gifts include a Washington, D.C., apartment and expensive jewelry, according to NBC News.
Investigators are trying to determine whether the gifts came from a business in Edgewater, N.J., that was given an exclusive contract to perform Halal meat certification with the Egyptian government.
Agriculture Department officials say the business had no experience in that process.
Menendez has denied any wrongdoing in regard to the ongoing investigation.
"I am sure it is going to end up in absolutely nothing," he said last week, also NBC reported.
