Russia President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of terrorism, saying that Ukrainian intelligence forces attempted to destroy a piece of Russia's civil infrastructure, the BBC reports.

According to the BBC, Putin said at a meeting with the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia that Ukraine had attacked the bridge to Russian-annexed Crimea.

Officials have reported that three people were killed as a result.

"There is no doubt, this is an act of terrorism aimed at destroying Russia's critical civilian infrastructure," Putin stated, according to the BBC.

Head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, said that Russian citizens and foreign states had aided preparations for the attack.

An advisor to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukrainian forces were not behind the attack.

Zelensky's advisor Mykhailo Podolyak wrote in a statement that there is "only one terrorist state here" and that the "whole world knows who it is."

"Does Putin accuse Ukraine of terrorism? It looks too cynical even for Russia," Podolyak said.

Zelensky rather cryptically acknowledged the incident on Saturday in his nightly address, saying: "Today was not a bad day and mostly sunny on our state's territory."

"Unfortunately, it was cloudy in Crimea. Although it was also warm," he added.
