Finland seizes control of ship carrying Russian oil suspected in cutting undersea power cable
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said the cable was disconnected Wednesday
Finland has seized a ship carrying Russian oil in connection to the cutting Wednesday of an undersea power cable with Estonia.
Finland announced Thursday that it had taken control of the Cook Islands-registered ship the Eagle S.
Authorities say the disruption of the Estlink 2 electricity cable was likely caused due to “aggravated criminal mischief," according to The Hill newspaper.
The European Commission said in a statement that the disruption “is the latest in a series of suspected attacks on critical infrastructure.”
