Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki dies at age 56
Wojcicki served as YouTube's CEO for nine years before stepping down in 2023.
Former YouTube CEO and Google executive Susan Wojcicki passed away at age 56, her husband announced Friday evening.
“My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non-small cell lung cancer,” Dennis Troper wrote on social media.
Troper referred to Wojcicki as a dear friend and loving mother in his post, according to The Associated Press.
As of now there are no other details about her death.
Wojcicki served as YouTube's CEO for nine years before stepping down in 2023.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai described her as one of the most "vibrant people" he has ever met, according to CNBC News.
"Her loss is devastating for all of us who know and love her, for the thousands of Googlers she led over the years, and for millions of people all over the world who looked up to her, benefited from her advocacy and leadership, and felt the impact of the incredible things she created at Google, YouTube, and beyond," Pichai wrote in a note to Google employees.
Google bought YouTube in 2006.
Wojcicki played a role in the early development of Google, according to the AP. Soon after the company was incorporated into a business in 1998 by co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, she rented the garage of her home in Menlo Park, California, to them for $1,700 a month.
