Marjorie Taylor Greene blasts Brian Kemp for Trump indictment reaction: 'nothing but ego and pride'
"Today, he failed massively on a national stage," Greene said.
Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene blasted Gov. Brian Kemp for his reaction to the fourth indictment of former President Donald Trump.
"Governor Kemp had a great opportunity today," Greene said on the Wednesday edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "He could have been a hero in our state. He should have come out swinging against Fans Willis, and what she is doing ... but instead, he took to Twitter to argue with President Trump about the 2020 election. What I saw in that was nothing but ego and pride. That is not what I wanted to see from our governor here in Georgia."
Georgia GOP Gov. Brian Kemp responded to Trump on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, after the former president wrote on TRUTH Social about election fraud in the Peach State.
"The 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen," Kemp wrote. "For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward - under oath - and prove anything in a court of law. Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor. The future of our country is at stake in 2024 and that must be our focus."
Trump and 18 of his allies were indicted Monday night by a Georgia grand jury for engaging in a broad conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election.
The charges that Trump and the others – including Mark Meadows and Rudy Giuliani – are facing include allegedly making false statements to officials and false statements in relation to voting machines and "false electors."
Greene said that Kemp needed to come out with a condemnation of what was happening to Trump.
"I wanted to see Republican Governor Brian Kemp coming out against this," she said. "I wanted to see him coming out with a plan to stop it. It doesn't matter how he feels about President Trump. It doesn't matter if he's still angry at President Trump for attacking him over the 2020 election. He did a good job in his governor's campaign by not attacking President Trump back and a lot of Republican voters appreciated that. But today, he failed massively on a national stage."
