Freedom Caucus picks Virginia GOP Rep. Good to replace Perry, but not without expected drama
"I ask that you prayerfully consider electing someone else as Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus," Rep. Warren Davidson said after Rep. Bob Good was nominated.
Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., was elected to serve as Freedom Caucus Chair, replacing Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., as leader of the conservative group despite drama.
Good won the internal election Monday even though Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, responded by saying he would not seek reelection to the Freedom Caucus Board after it had recommended Good as the next chairman.
"I ask that we consider how to best increase our influence while preserving our power to move policy in the right direction. I strongly feel that Bob Good as Chairman will impair that objective," Davidson said in a letter Sunday to his fellow members, Axios reported.
"I do not have an alternative nomination, but as my final fiduciary duty as a board member, I ask that you prayerfully consider electing someone else as Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus."
Perry dismissed criticisms of Good, who was the only member of Congress who was on the ballot to be the next chairman of the caucus.
"I don’t know if this is a newsflash for you, but people around here don’t always agree on everything," Perry said, according to The Hill.
