Democrat Congresswoman Cori Bush focus of DOJ probe, grand jury subpoena: report
Bush "repeatedly declined to comment" on the probe, a reporter said.
Democratic Rep. Cori Bush and her spending of federal funds for personal security are the focus of the recently revealed Justice Department probe, according to a new report Tuesday.
The House Sergeant at Arms on Monday made public, through a House floor announcement, that it had received a Justice Department subpoena in connection to a grand jury probe.
Punchbowl News was the first to report the matter was related to a House member and such funding allegedly being misspent. Just the news later confirmed the information.
On Tuesday Punchbowl founder Jake Sherman wrote on X: "THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT is conducting a criminal probe into @CoriBush. The Justice Department subpoenaed the House Sergeant at Arms for records relating to the misspending of federal security money."
Bush, part of part of the so-called "Squad," widely considered House Democratic Conference's most progressive caucus.
On Monday, she "repeatedly declined to comment" on the investigation, according to another Punchbowl report.
The Missouri Democratic congresswoman's campaign recently came under fire after filings showed that she gave tens of thousands of dollars during the first half of last year to her husband for private security and other expenses.
It is unclear whether the latest investigation is connected.
