Dem Rep. Eshoo will not seek reelection in 2024
"Over all the years, my legislation and my votes have reflected the values of my constituents," she asserted.
Democratic California Rep. Anna Eshoo on Tuesday announced that she would not seek reelection in 2024, marking the latest in a string of congressional exits this cycle.
Eshoo first entered in Congress in 1993 and has represented the 14th, 18th, and 16th districts of her state. She announced her retirement in a video posted online.
"I'm choosing this beautiful season of Thanksgiving to announce that I will not seek reelection and I do so with a heart filled with unending gratitude to you, my magnificent constituents," she said. "For three decades, you've given me your trust, and I've given every fiber of my being to live up to the sacred trust in every way possible
"You've invited me into your lives, your homes, and your hearts, and this has enriched my representation of the most distinguished congressional district in our country," Eshoo went on. "I'm very proud of the body of bipartisan work I've been able to achieve on your behalf in the Congress. "Sixty-six of my bills have been signed into law by five presidents, including the preservation of lands here at home, landmark advancements in women's health, the creation of two federal agencies to promote research and development ... and key investments in the needs of our local communities..."
"Over all the years, my legislation and my votes have reflected the values of my constituents," she asserted.
Her announcement comes one day after fellow California Democratic Rep. Tony Cárdenas declared that he would also not seek reelection. Several Republicans, moreover, including Reps. Kay Granger, Texas; Michael Burgess, Texas; and Brad Wenstrup, Ohio; also recently announced their retirement plans.
