The Democratic-led Senate on Thursday unanimously condemned the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump in a resolution cosponsored by Democratic Pennsylvania Sens. John Fetterman and Bob Casey.

Trump was injured in the assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally on July 13, where a bullet hit his ear. Two other rallygoers were also injured in the shooting, and one was killed. The gunman was also killed by a Secret Service sniper.

The resolution called for "unity and civility in the United States," condemned the assassination attempt, and honored the victims. It was introduced by Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso, a Republican, and included 64 cosponsors, according to Fox News.

"On July 13, our nation witnessed a horrifying assassination attempt on President Trump. Our country was inches away from a catastrophic event that would have changed the course of our history," Barrasso said in a statement. "Today, the United States Senate came together in condemning this horrifying act against a former president and current Republican candidate for president.

"Americans deserve to attend political events and exercise their rights without fear for their lives," he continued. "Congress is determined to find answers and ensure this never happens again."

Members of Congress have vowed to investigate how the shooting occurred, and multiple law enforcement agencies are also conducting investigations into the assassination attempt.

Both chambers have already held multiple hearings on the shooting, and the House has established a bipartisan task force to investigate the incident. The committee's final report will be due by Dec. 13, according to the Associated Press.
