Former California Congressman and current TRUTH Social CEO Devin Nunes says that in order to avoid a government shutdown, GOP lawmakers need a short continuing resolution and limit focus to the wide open southern border and "two-tiered system of justice."

"Next week they need to come back here..they need to do a very short CR, whether it's one week, two weeks, get their sea legs and get their messaging," Nunes said on the Thursday edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show.

The House had a botched vote on a defense spending package that upended the legislative agenda that was set through Saturday.

Congress has until Sept. 30 to fund the government or risk a shutdown.

"The Republicans can have a clear message talking about the two tiered system of justice and the wide open border," Nunes said. "It's very, very simple and both are really bad."

He added that if there is a government shutdown, the Democrats will blame it on Republicans.

"The Democrats in the House will be glad to let the government shut down," he said. "Republicans will get hit over the head."
