Gisele Fetterman, the wife of Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman, revealed this week that she left the United States and went zip-lining after her husband was checked into the hospital for depression earlier this month.

Fetterman made the admission on her Twitter account on Friday morning. "I am not really sure how to navigate this journey but am figuring it out slowly," she wrote.

"1 week ago today when the news dropped, the kids were off from school and media trucks circled our home. I did the first thing I could think of … pack them in the car and drive," she said.

"We drove straight into … Canada (and lovely Buffalo NY)," she said, urging readers to "always have passports ready just in case you have to run away."

"We talked about lots of hard things and how we will all have to face hard things. About the need to be gentle … with all and with ourselves," she continued, adding that at one point she and her children "ziplined over Niagara Falls."

"We also talked about how joy and fun can and must still exist, even when someone we love is in pain," she continued.

"And tomorrow?" she added. "Who knows. Will try all over again."

An aide to John Fetterman told CNBC that the Democratic senator is expected to remain in the hospital for "a few weeks."
