Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney on Thursday proposed an amendment to an appropriations bill to cut White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s salary to one dollar that was ultimately rejected.

The amendment was offered to the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act for fiscal 2024.

Enough Republicans joined Democrats in GOP-led House to kill the amendment 257-165 with one member voting present, according to the final tally.

Jean-Pierre makes about $180,000 per year as press secretary, according to reports.

The House is expected to vote Thursday on passage of the appropriations bill.

"The American people should not be forced to pay the salary of an individual who dispenses boldfaced lies to the American people,” Tenney, a New York lawmaker, said on the House floor.
