The GOP-led House passed a nearly $900 billion defense bill on Friday with a narrow 219-210 vote.

There were four Democrats who voted in favor of the bill and four Republicans who opposed it.

The measure now moves to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

House Democratic leaders had objected to some of the amendments that were made to the bill ahead of the final vote. Among the amendments that caused controversy was banning the defense secretary from covering the cost of abortion services or transgender surgeries and hormone treatments for service members.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said the amendments process allowed members to “actually have a voice with what the bill will look like at the very end."
