Grassley slams Wray and deputy FBI director, gives 'vote of no confidence' in their leadership
The senator highlighted five areas that he felt Wray and deputy director Paul Abbate failed in their leadership, including failing to provide Congress with necessary information it needed for investigations.
Iowa GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley on Monday sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, which expressed his lack of confidence in the director's leadership and the ways he "failed" in his duties during the Biden administration.
Grassley has led multiple investigations into the FBI during Wray's tenure. President-elect Donald Trump picked Wray during his first term in office, but has nominated a different director for his second administration.
The senator highlighted five areas that he felt Wray and deputy director Paul Abbate failed in their leadership.
Among these areas were his refusal to provide Congress with critical information it needed for several investigations, such as sexual misconduct allegations, and subjecting Trump to a "double standard" by raiding his Mar-a-Lago resort while refusing to investigate bribery allegations against then-Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.
“These failures are serious enough and their pattern widespread enough to have shattered my confidence in your leadership and the confidence and hope many others in Congress placed in you," Grassley wrote. "For the good of the country, it’s time for you and your deputy to move on to the next chapter in your lives."
Grassley said he has spent his career fighting for transparency in the federal government and highlighting those who are against such openness. He said Wray and Abbate have failed to be transparent.
“I therefore must express my vote of no confidence in your continued leadership of the FBI," Wray wrote. "President-elect Trump has already announced his intention to nominate a candidate to replace you, and the Senate will carefully consider that choice. For my part, I’ve also seen enough, and hope your respective successors will learn from these failures."
