Greene, for her part, formally introduced a resolution to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib on the same day

Vermont Democratic Rep. Becca Balint on Thursday moved to force a censure vote on Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on the same day Greene introduced a censure resolution against Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib.

Balint first brought up the resolution in July, citing Greene's myriad controversial public statements, but on Thursday moved to force a vote on her privileged resolution, giving the chamber two legislative days to consider it, according to The Hill. Balint cited Greene's own resolution as part of her motivation.

"The fact that on the very first day of his leadership, [House Speaker Mike Johnson] lets Marjorie Taylor Greene bring to the floor a resolution that is riddled with lies and falsehoods on my colleague — it won't stand," she said Thursday.

When first introducing the resolution in July, Balint insisted that censuring the Georgia lawmaker was vital to preserving the nation's democracy.

"For me, censuring Rep. Taylor Greene is about the health of our democracy and faith in government. Her antisemitic, racist, transphobic rhetoric has no place in the House of Representatives," she said. "Unserious elected officials like Taylor Greene make a mockery of our democratic institutions and derail us from the urgent work we’ve been tasked with. This job is about alleviating suffering and supporting our communities, and instead Taylor Greene uses her position as a megaphone for conspiracy theories and hate speech."

Greene, for her part, formally introduced a resolution to censure Tlaib on the same day over her participation in a pro-Palestinian protest that saw demonstrators occupy the House Cannon Office Building and her anti-Israel statements. The Georgia lawmaker accused Tlaib of being a "terrorist sympathizer" and of heeding Hamas's call for a "day of unprecedented anger" by participating in the protest.

Tlaib, for her part, dismissed Greene's move, saying "Marjorie Taylor Greene’s unhinged resolution is deeply Islamophobic and attacks peaceful Jewish anti-war advocates."

"I am proud to stand in solidarity with Jewish peace advocates calling for a ceasefire and an end to the violence. I will not be bullied, I will not be dehumanized, and I will not be silenced," she continued. "I will continue to call for ceasefire, for the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid, for the release of hostages and those arbitrarily detained, and for every American to be brought home. I will continue to work for a just and lasting peace that upholds the human rights and dignity of all people, and ensures that no person, no child has to suffer or live in fear of violence."
