The House failed Thursday to override a pair of vetoes that President Donald Trump signed last month related to legislation on a Colorado water pipeline and a Florida flood control project. 

Both bills were unanimously approved by both chambers last month. Trump's vetoes of the bills marked the first of his second term, which he admitted were done for political reasons, according to Politico. 

The House failed to override the Colorado veto in a 248-177-1 split, which saw 35 Republicans vote with all 213 Democrats. The chamber needed 285 votes to successfully override the veto. South Carolina GOP Rep. Nancy Mace voted present.

“I will continue to fight for Western water," Colorado GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert told reporters. "This was a commitment made by President Trump in 2020 and I will continue to fulfill that commitment."

Boebert, a former Trump loyalist, broke with the president on the legislation when he vetoed it, claiming the legislation was a "completely non-controversial, bipartisan bill." 

The Florida vote, which would have impacted the Miccosukee Tribe by allowing them to work on construction projects to protect a village from flooding, failed in a 236-188 split that saw 24 Republicans side with all Democrats.
