House GOP asks ex-FBI agent Thibault to testify about 'domestic violent extremism' reclassification

House Republicans on the Judiciary Committee are demanding that former FBI agent Timothy Thibault appears for an interview after whistleblowers alleged that he pressured agents to reclassify cases as "domestic violent extremism" despite minimal basis to do so.

"[W]histleblowers allege that you pressured line agents to reclassify cases as 'domestic violent extremism' even though there was minimal, circumstantial evidence to support a reclassification," Republican Reps. Jim Jordan, Darrell Issa and Mike Johnson wrote in a letter Friday to Thibault.

"Other whistleblowers have disclosed that you were part of a scheme to undermine and discredit allegations of criminal wrongdoing by members of the Biden family," the congressmen said.

House Judiciary Republicans have sent two other letters asking Thibault to testify, once in September and again in October. Thibault, who said he retired in August, has declined to be interviewed despite his attorneys previously saying he "welcomes any investigation."

Thibault has faced accusations of partisan bias due to his role in investigations into former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden.
