House Judiciary Committee GOP warns European Commission not to interfere in Hungarian election

"The European Commission uses its vast power to limit online discourse ahead of major elections in the U.S. and Europe," the House Judiciary Committee wrote on X.

Before Sunday's Hungarian election, House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan and Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., wrote to Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy of the European Commission, to "refrain from any interference."

"The European Commission uses its vast power to limit online discourse ahead of major elections in the U.S. and Europe," the committee wrote on X. 

"Its actions could affect U.S. speech—including the global removal and demotion of content protected by the First Amendment," the committee said.
