He served in the Senate from 1994 to 2023, making him the longest-serving U.S. senator from Oklahoma.
Prior to his election to the Senate, Inhofe was the 32nd Mayor of Tulsa from 1978 to 1984 and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 to 1994.
He also served in the U.S. Army in the 1950s.
