Marjorie Taylor Greene open to backing Elon Musk for House Speaker
"DOGE can only truly be accomplished by reigning [sic] in Congress to enact real government efficiency," Greene wrote on X.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., on Thursday said she would be open to supporting Tesla CEO Elon Musk for House Speaker.
"I’d be open to supporting @elonmusk for Speaker of the House," Greene wrote on the social media platform, X. "DOGE can only truly be accomplished by reigning [sic] in Congress to enact real government efficiency."
A potential government shutdown looms as it is unlikely the House will pass a continuing resolution. Many House GOP members said they would not vote for the proposed stopgap bill as it will raise the debt ceiling and give members of Congress a raise.
The deadline to pass a continuing resolution to keep the government open is Friday, Dec. 20. Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy criticized the bill over social media, resulting in it getting more attention.
President Joe Biden is arriving in Washington, D.C. from Delaware Thursday as the shutdown looms.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., also suggested Musk for the next House Speaker as current Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., may not secure the gavel in January.
"The Speaker of the House need not be a member of Congress ... Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk ... [sic] think about it ... [sic] nothing’s impossible. (not to mention the joy at seeing the collective establishment, aka ‘uniparty,’ lose their ever-lovin’ minds)," Paul wrote on X.
