McConnell calls for 'swift passage' of debt limit compromise bill 'without unnecessary delay'
The vote in the GOP-led House is expected to take place on Wednesday
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell is calling for "swift passage" of bill resulting from a compromise on the debt limit between House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Biden on the debt limit.
McConnell and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer were also involved in the negotiations on the debt limit.
“The Senate must act swiftly and pass this agreement without unnecessary delay,” McConnell said in a statement Sunday evening.
Conservative senators like Ted Cruz (R-Texas) have publicly criticized the bill. He responded on Twitter to McCarthy saying there isn't one thing for Democrats in the compromise bill.
"There’s not ‘one thing’ for Dems. There are $4 trillion things—a blank check—for Democrats. Plus 87,000 things: new IRS agents to harass Americans. All in exchange for eliminating virtually ALL of the House’s spending cuts,” Cruz wrote in a tweet on Sunday.
The GOP-led House is expected to vote on the bill Wednesday.
