New York Rep. Claudia Tenney calls Judge Merchan's behavior 'appalling' in Trump trial
"I have seen judges removed for less than the absolute judicial misconduct that we are seeing," Tenney said.
Congresswoman Claudia Tenney on Wednesday said the behavior of the judge in former president Donald Trump's hush money trial was "appalling."
"This is appalling," she said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "I am a New York lawyer admitted to the New York bar. My father was, I think, about the longest serving New York State Supreme Court justice in New York history. He would be appalled if he were alive today to see this."
New York Judge Juan Merchan told the jury in the Trump trial that they do not need unanimity to convict the former president. This means some could agree on one crime and some another and he would treat it as a unanimous verdict.
Trump is accused of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment involving porn star Stormy Daniels.
The trial for the hush money case formally began last month, which made Trump the first former president to stand trial for an alleged crime. Closing arguments for the trial began this week and a verdict is expected in the coming days.
"I have seen judges removed for less than the absolute judicial misconduct that we are seeing," Tenney said.
