AOC touts bill to crack down on AI deepfake porn, calling it 'sexual violence'
The White House last week urged tech companies to attempt to stop the creation or stop monetizing the deep fake porn.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., touted legislation to tackle the issue of non consensual artificial intelligence (AI) deepfake pornography.
Ocasio-Cortez referred to the AI deepfake porn as "sexual violence" in a Tuesday video. The Defiance Act, she said, would update the Violence Against Women Act to create a "civil course of action" for victims of deepfake pornography.
She also shared her own experience with AI porn, saying that she was targeted with it earlier this year. Pop singer Taylor Swift was also targeted by the AI porn back in January.
Ocasio-Cortez said that such AI porn could not just harm celebrities or high profile politicians, but everyday Americans.
“And what is even crazier is that right now there are no federal protections for any person regardless of your gender if you’re a victim of non consensual deep fake pornography,” she said in her video.
