Sen. Ron Johnson demands record preservations from agencies regarding attempted Trump assassination
"There will be so many more questions raised once you start getting information," Sen. Ron Johnson said.
Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said Tuesday that in a letter to different federal agencies and the Secret Service, he demanded records be preserved regarding the failed assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump.
"I sent a letter to the agencies ... to Merrick Garland and Christopher Wray," Johnson said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show.
"The first thing I did is I demanded record preservation [and] put them on notice," he continued. "I mean, legal notice ... not talking about just records going forward. I'm talking about all the communication with the Trump campaign and in between agencies discussing Secret Service protection from the Trump campaign."
Over the weekend, there was an assassination attempt against Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has admitted the situation was a result of a security failure on the part of the Secret Service.
House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green demanded that the Secret Service provide information about the incident by next week.
Johnson said that there are many questions that have to be answered about failures of the Secret Service to protect the president.
"There will be so many more questions raised once you start getting information," he said.
