Senate Budget Committee advances budget resolution, marking first step toward passing Trump agenda
The Senate framework, which was revealed last week, includes $175 billion to secure the southern border, and $150 billion to beef up national defense.
The Republican-led Senate Budget Committee on Wednesday advanced its budget resolution out of committee in a party-line vote, signaling its first step in passing President Donald Trump's ambitious agenda.
The vote occurred the same day that the House Budget Committee unveiled its framework for the resolution. The House committee is expected to vote on the resolution on Thursday. Both chambers need to pass the same bill before it can go to Trump's desk for his signature.
The Senate committee advanced the legislation in an 11-10 split in a mark-up project that lasted all day, according to Politico. The committee meeting included sorting through 45 Democratic amendments, including one that would force Republicans to push the funding through the regular appropriations process instead of by a party-line vote.

The House Budget Committee is expected to consider its resolution on Thursday morning, at 10 a.m. Eastern.
