Senate confirms Linda McMahon as Education secretary
The final confirmation vote resulted in a 51-45 split that saw no Democrats join Republicans. Democratic Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman has previously voted with Republicans on some nominees, but did not support McMahon.
The Senate on Monday night confirmed Linda McMahon as the new Secretary of Education in a vote along party lines.
President Donald Trump nominated McMahon, who served as co-chair of his transition team last year. She previously led the Small Business Administration during Trump's first term, and served as chairwoman of the board for America First Policy Institute.
The final confirmation vote resulted in a 51-45 split that saw no Democrats join Republicans, per Fox News. Democratic Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman has previously voted with Republicans on some nominees, but did not support McMahon.
The final vote comes after McMahon confirmed last week that she supported Trump's plan to abolish the Education Department.
“President Trump believes that the bureaucracy in Washington should be abolished so that we can return education to the states, where it belongs," McMahon said. “I wholeheartedly support and agree with this mission.”
