President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Education, Linda McMahon,  has confirmed her full support for the president's plan to abolish the department.

“President Trump believes that the bureaucracy in Washington should be abolished so that we can return education to the states, where it belongs," McMahon wrote in a statement, according to The Hill newspaper. “I wholeheartedly support and agree with this mission.”

The nominee issued the statement in response to questions from Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Mass.; and Andy Kim, N.J.

McMahon has already cleared the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions but has not received formal confirmation to the post.

The vote now goes to the Senate for a full vote and she is expected to clear that final hurdle.

During the 2024 presidential election, Trump promised to end the DOE and send education back to the states.
