The Senate is expected to start its confirmation hearing process for President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet picks next week, including hearings for Trump's attorney general nominee Pam Bondi, Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth, and Agriculture secretary pick Brooke Rollins, sources told Politico.
The Senate is expected to formally set up its committees through a resolution on Tuesday, which then gives them at least one week to notify the nominees and schedule the hearings.
The first day of the hearings is expected to occur Jan. 14. The Senate Armed Forces Committee and Senate Judiciary Committee are expected to go first with Hegseth and Bondi, respectively.
Incoming Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley said he hopes to pass Bondi's nomination from the committee by the following week, and will then focus on Bondi's deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, followed by Trump's pick for FBI Director Kash Patel, the outlet reported.
The Senate Agriculture Committee reportedly plans to have its hearing on Agriculture secretary nominee Brooke Rollins on Jan. 15, and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee plans to have its hearing on Trump's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator pick Lee Zeldin on either Jan. 15 or Jan. 16.
