South Carolina Congressman Norman says Ilhan Omar should be investigated over Somalia remarks
Omar allegedly vowed to influence the U.S. government to support Somalia's interests.
Congressman Ralph Norman, R-S.C., said Wednesday that he believes Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., should be investigated over video footage of her allegedly promising to prioritize the interests of Mogadishu and backing the territorial aspirations of the Somali government.
"Omar should be investigated," Norman said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "[It needs] to be taken seriously because this country is in trouble, and we've got to have people who are pro-American, not pro-other countries."
Speaking in the Somali language, Omar allegedly vowed to influence the U.S. government to support Somalia's interests.
Omar denied the allegations, arguing that the video is "not only slanted but completely off, but I wouldn’t expect more from these propagandists."
"You take an oath when you are elected to Congress ... to defend and protect America's interests," Norman said. "Not Somalia or not any other country."
He said that people should take note of the video and be disturbed by it.
