Speaker Johnson 'resolved' to vote on spending bill, SAVE Act this week
Johnson said that in states like Ohio and Pennsylvania, there are illegal migrants on the voter rolls that have not been taken off.
House Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday said during a press conference that he and members of the House plan to vote on a continuing resolution and an critical election integrity bill this week.
The vote is expected to happen on Wednesday.
"We have primary responsibilities upon us right now," Johnson said during the press conference. "The House of Representatives has a responsibility to fund the government and do everything within our constitutional authority to ensure we have a free and fair election."
The SAVE Act requires voters to show proof of citizenship before voting in a U.S. election.
Johnson said that in states like Ohio and Pennsylvania, there are illegal immigrants on the voter rolls.
"It matters if you have a few thousand illegals participating in in an election in the wrong place," he said. "You can change the makeup of Congress and you can affect the presidential election."
He further said that a vote on the SAVE Act is a fight worth having.
