Top Democrat wants to plea deal with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other 9/11 plotters

Durbin calls Austin's decision to revoke the plea deal 'deeply disappointing'

A top Democrat says Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's decision to revoke the plea deals with three suspects accused of plotting the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks was the wrong move.

"I urge Secretary Austin to reverse this deeply disappointing decision, which denies finality and justice to 9/11 families and exposes yet again the lack of independence that has haunted the military commissions from the outset," Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., wrote Sunday on X.

The plea deal involved Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two other terrorist conspirators.
