Trump DOT nominee Sean Duffy clears Senate committee, 28-0
The 28-0 vote is likely indicative of an easy path to confirmation on the final vote as the Transportation post is generally not among the more contentious of Cabinet posts.
The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee on Wednesday unanimously voted to advance the nomination of former Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Wis., for secretary of Transportation.
The 28-0 vote is likely indicative of an easy path to confirmation on the final vote as the Transportation post is generally not among the more contentious of Cabinet posts. Republicans, however, excoriated now-former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg during his tenure amid a litany of train derailments and airline groundings.
"Congressman Duffy’s personal experiences, his wife Rachel’s head on-crash, his dedication to raising a daughter with a disability show that he appreciates the responsibility of the role," Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said, according to The Hill.
Trump nominated Duffy for the job in late 2024, saying "[h]e will prioritize Excellence, Competence, Competitiveness and Beauty when rebuilding America’s highways, tunnels, bridges and airports."
Earlier this month, Duffy took aim at airplane manufacturer Boeing, saying the firm need "tough love" in the wake of a number of technical failures with its planes.
