GOP Rep Hunt spends six figures on CNN debate ad highlighting Biden's 'real record' on black people
The new 60-second ad was paid for by Hunt's Hellfire PAC, and will air on CNN and Fox News in major cities of certain swing states like North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
Texas GOP Rep. Wesley Hunt has made a six-figure ad buy during the first presidential debate Thursday night that targets President Joe Biden's "real record" when it comes to black people.
The new 60-second ad was paid for by Hunt's Hellfire PAC, and will air on CNN and Fox News in major cities of certain swing states like North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
"Joe Biden's history as a politician reveals a pattern of making explicitly racist comments, authoring and endorsing discriminatory policies, and associating with individuals known as segregationists," Hunt, who is black, told Fox News.
Hunt's ad is part of a larger strategy to sway black voters to support GOP president candidate Donald Trump over Biden.
Black voters are typically a key voting block for Democrats. Although black voters are still expected to vote Biden overall, Hunt said he hopes Trump will sway 25-35% of the black male vote. Trump secured 19% of the black male vote in 2020.
The ad will focus on certain comments that Biden has made over the years, including his description of former President Barack Obama as the "first sort of mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean – nice looking guy."
Biden also claimed in 2012 the Republican Party wants to put black people "back in chains."
Biden's campaign defended the president's record when it comes to helping black voters.
"Joe Biden [has] achieved record low black unemployment, secured historic funding for our HBCUs, capped the cost of insulin, and secured billions in student loan forgiveness to close the racial wealth gap," Sarafina Chitika, a senior spokesperson for the Biden-Harris campaign, said.
