Abe Hamadeh files lawsuit to remove Arizona Attorney General Mayes from office
The lawsuit argues that Mayes unlawfully holds public office.
Arizona GOP Congressional candidate Abe Hamadeh filed a lawsuit on Thursday to remove Democrat Attorney General Kris Mayes from office.
"Arizonans deserve JUSTICE," Hamadeh wrote on the social media platform, X. "My legal team has filed a writ of quo warranto to remove Kris Mayes from office."
The lawsuit argues that Mayes unlawfully holds public office. Hamadeh narrowly lost the Attorney General's race to Mayes by 280 votes in 2022.
Earlier this year, Hamadeh and the Republican National Committee sued Mayes to ensure all votes were counted in the 2022 election contest.
Hamadeh filed a special action with the state's high court, requesting a new trial in connection with the election.
A judge in July rejected Hamadeh's bid.
During a hearing in May, Hamadeh’s attorney James Sabalos, argued that a sample of ballots needs to be reviewed to find undervotes, which are ballots that didn’t have a candidate selected for the attorney general’s race, because some ballots were misread as undervotes.
