Court allows lawsuit to proceed on President Trump's business operations at his D.C. hotel
A federal court stopped a similar case last month regarding the president, a former New York real estate developer, and his outside holdings
A federal court on Thursday reportedly allowed to proceed a lawsuit that attempts to block President Trump’s Washington, D.C., hotel from accepting money from foreign and state governments.
The suit alleges the president illegally profited from such patrons at the Trump International Hotel, just blocks from the White House.
The suit was filed by Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh and D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine, according to The Washington Post.
The appeals court ruling appears contrary to a court ruling in March on a similar case – in which the court barred individual members of Congress from suing the president over his private business matters.
The ruling Thursday could send the case to the Supreme Court.
